Content:Tragedy struck in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State as suspected bandits ambushed a group of local security operatives, killing four members of the team. The incident occurred in Dogon Ruwa community, located within the Bashar District, in the early hours of Tuesday, July 30.
According to local sources, the victims—two soldiers and two vigilante members—were on a mission to counter threats of an impending attack when they were suddenly ambushed by the armed men. The assailants opened fire, killing the operatives on the spot before carting away their weapons and uniforms.
Community leaders revealed that the security team had been alerted about suspicious movements in the area and had launched a search operation prior to the deadly encounter. Unfortunately, the attackers struck first, catching the team off-guard in a well-coordinated ambush.
This violent assault adds to the rising wave of insecurity in the region. In recent months, Wase LGA has been the target of repeated bandit attacks, including a previous massacre in Kukawa and Bunyun communities, where scores of vigilante members reportedly lost their lives.
Residents are now calling on the state and federal governments to urgently step up security measures and support local defense groups with better resources, intelligence, and reinforcement to prevent further bloodshed.
