Elder statesman and former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has accused ex-Senate President David Mark of being the root cause of the party’s ongoing internal crisis. George claimed that the PDP convention chaired by Mark set the stage for the party’s troubles by disregarding its foundational principles and internal democratic processes.
He criticized Mark’s recent call for members to join the new opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the move as shameful. George expressed disappointment that a party veteran like Mark would abandon the PDP at a critical time instead of contributing to its revival.
George stressed that loyalty and discipline are expected from leaders, especially those with military backgrounds like Mark. He stated that the PDP was instrumental in Mark’s political rise, and it was dishonourable for him to turn his back on the platform that built his political career.
In response, former PDP National Secretary, Ibrahim Tsauri, defended the new coalition, stating that those joining the ADC are still fundamentally loyal to the PDP and will return if the party gets its act together. He argued that the shift is driven by the need for a united opposition against the ruling APC.
Meanwhile, PDP National Organising Secretary, Capt. Umar Bature (retd), noted that joining another political movement is a personal decision. He added that the PDP remains intact and committed to its rebuilding process ahead of future elections.
