Former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to publicly distance himself from speculations linking him with a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Oyinlola described the rumours as damaging and urged Adeleke to reaffirm his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he currently serves as a sitting governor.
Oyinlola emphasized that Governor Adeleke has a responsibility to protect the trust of PDP supporters and not allow distractions from opposition elements. According to him, any suggestion of crossing over to the APC not only weakens the PDP’s structure in Osun but also undermines the electoral mandate given to Adeleke under the PDP platform.
He noted that Adeleke’s achievements in office have been closely tied to the PDP’s vision and policies, and abandoning the party could send a wrong signal to loyalists and the electorate. Oyinlola also warned that such political moves could create unnecessary tension ahead of the 2026 governorship race in the state.
The elder statesman urged Adeleke to maintain his political integrity by rejecting all defection talks and instead focus on consolidating the gains of his administration under the PDP. He reassured that the party remains united and firmly behind the governor’s leadership in Osun.
