The Federal Government has initiated a swift rescue operation to repatriate Nigerian workers abandoned by their employers in the Central African Republic (CAR), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a statement on July 25, 2025 . These workers were reportedly left stranded in Bambari—located nearly 850 km from CAR’s capital, Bangui—after being transported there for a mining job but allegedly deprived of pay and proper support .
Nigerian Embassy officials in Bangui have successfully made contact with the victims and coordinated with local authorities to ensure their safety and welfare. Their passports have been recovered, and evacuation logistics are in motion: vehicles dispatched to Bambari will bring them to Bangui with a military escort, arriving on Saturday, July 26, 2025 .
Further negotiations are underway with the recruiting company to secure temporary accommodation and care for the stranded individuals while awaiting repatriation to Nigeria . This joint effort reflects the government’s commitment to protecting the dignity and rights of nationals overseas.
In addition, the Ministry issued a strong advisory to Nigerians seeking employment abroad. Travellers are urged to thoroughly check the credibility of potential employers, ensure proper travel documentation, and register with Nigerian diplomatic missions to facilitate consular support in emergency situations.
