Bida Council Chairman Suspended Over Alleged Misconduct and Administrative Lapsest:The Legislative Council of Bida Local Government Area in Niger State has suspended its Chairman, Hon. Bala Shaba, over alleged disregard for administrative procedures and failure to comply with official requests.
The suspension was announced after the council accused him of neglecting vital directives necessary for transparency and accountability in the local government’s operations.According to a statement issued by the council, Hon. Shaba had ignored several written requests demanding explanations on key governance issues. These included details about the termination of EFASOFT’s contract in 2024, presentation of audited financial statements from 2023 to date, and documentation of major achievements during his tenure. His continued refusal to respond was described as a gross violation of council directives and ethical standards.
The suspension, which took effect on October 15, 2025, was endorsed by eleven councillors led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Shafii Mohammed Liman, alongside the Deputy Leader, Majority Leader, Chief Whip, and other members. However, two councillors — Hon. Salihu Mohammed Bala and Hon. Ahmed Musa — declined to sign the resolution.The council emphasized that the action was not politically motivated but aimed at reinforcing transparency and ensuring due process in local administration. The suspension comes amid heightened political activities ahead of the November 1, 2025 local government elections in Niger State, adding a new twist to the unfolding political landscape in Bida.
