Governor Okpebholo Urges Parents: Shield Your Children from Cultism’s Grip

On the occasion of the 2025 Children’s Day celebration, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, called upon parents and guardians to actively dissuade their children from joining cult groups. Emphasizing the pivotal role of family and community in shaping the youth, the governor highlighted the importance of instilling sound values and guiding children towards positive aspirations.

In his message, Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the well-being of children by investing in quality education and creating an environment conducive to their growth and potential. He stated, “Our children are our most precious assets. Their dreams are the blueprints for a brighter future for Edo State.”

The governor’s appeal aligns with his administration’s broader efforts to combat cultism in the state. Earlier in the year, he signed the Secret Cult and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Law, 2025, which imposes stringent penalties on individuals involved in cult-related activities, including a 21-year jail term for sponsors and the death penalty for those whose actions result in fatalities.

Governor Okpebholo’s message serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect the youth from negative influences and to foster a society where children can thrive without fear.
