In a recent political exchange, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, criticized former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of being driven by a desire for political power rather than genuine concern for Nigeria’s economic challenges.
During his 60th birthday celebration, Amaechi expressed concerns about the nation’s economic situation, stating, “We’re all hungry… For us in the opposition, if you want us to remove the man in power, we can remove him.”
Responding to these remarks, Wike dismissed Amaechi’s comments as politically motivated, suggesting that his “hunger” is for power, not food. He highlighted Amaechi’s extensive political career, noting that he never previously voiced such concerns during his tenure as Speaker, Governor, or Minister.
Wike further alleged that Amaechi’s recent political alliances, including with Atiku Abubakar, are attempts to regain political influence. He questioned Amaechi’s sincerity and criticized his past political campaigns, pointing out his failure to secure significant votes for Buhari during elections.
Emphasizing his own political stance, Wike stated, “I am not a liability but an asset,” and expressed his commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
This exchange underscores the ongoing political rivalry between Wike and Amaechi, both prominent figures from Rivers State, as they position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
