Igbo Youths Urge Obi to Clarify Stance on Opposition Coalition, Warn Against 2023 Repeat

An Igbo youth organization, the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), has called on Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to openly declare his position regarding the proposed opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections. The group emphasized that Obi’s silence could be detrimental, warning him not to repeat what they described as the strategic missteps of the 2023 general elections.

COSEYL President General, Goodluck Ibem, stressed that Nigerians—especially youth—placed significant trust in Obi during the last election, only to be left disappointed by what they perceived as a lack of political coordination and collaboration with other opposition parties. He said now is the time for Obi to clarify whether he supports a united front against the ruling APC in future elections.

The group maintained that a coalition of all major opposition forces is crucial to unseating the current administration, which they believe has failed to meet public expectations. COSEYL urged Obi to make a decisive move and join efforts to build a formidable opposition bloc that reflects the hopes and aspirations of the Nigerian people.
