Residents of Irepodun and Olodo communities, situated off Osunjela in Osun State, have called on the state government to urgently commence rehabilitation of the Osunjela-Owode-Ede road, describing its condition as deplorable and life-threatening.
They lamented that the road, which serves as a major route for commuters and traders, has become impassable, especially during the rainy season. According to them, flooding and erosion have washed away large portions of the road, subjecting motorists—particularly tricycle and car owners—to frequent damage and hardship.
Speaking on behalf of the affected communities, Dr. Olayinka Awofadeju and Mr. James Olaoluwa-Aina expressed concern over the neglect of the road project despite its inclusion in the 2025 Osun State budget. They said residents are frustrated that with June winding down, no construction work has commenced.
Dr. Awofadeju noted that the people of the area have always supported the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), saying, “We gave our full support to the PDP during the last general elections, and we are prepared to do the same in the forthcoming elections, including the governorship election slated for August 13, 2026.”
He added that kick-starting the road project this year would not only alleviate the suffering of the people but also boost the confidence of PDP supporters, who would require tangible developmental projects to showcase during campaigns starting March 11, 2026.
The community leaders therefore appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke to prioritise the road rehabilitation as a matter of urgency, stressing that the route is economically strategic and politically significant to the people of Irepodun, Olodo, and adjoining areas.
They maintained that fixing the road would reaffirm the government’s commitment to grassroots development and demonstrate responsiveness to the yearnings of loyal constituents.
