In a powerful address during the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) in Abuja on June 29–30, 2025, Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede delivered a resounding message: terrorists and non-state actors threatening Nigeria will be vanquished. He emphasized that through robust counter-terrorism strategies, those undermining the nation’s liberty, democracy, and heritage are bound to fail .
Speaking at an interdenominational church service marking NADCEL, Lt.-Gen. Oluyede reinforced the Army’s unwavering commitment to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and citizens’ rights. He quoted the Army’s motto: “Victory is from God Alone,” and affirmed that the military would uphold honor and faith in every operation .
Highlighting the importance of coordination, he stated that the Nigerian Army would continue collaborating with stakeholders across multi-agency platforms to fulfil its mandate to secure the nation effectively.
Reflecting on the Army’s 162-year legacy, Lt.-Gen. Oluyede paid tribute to fallen soldiers and acknowledged the sacrifices made by their families. He recognized the church event—with Jumat prayers and Christian services—as a symbol of seeking divine guidance and moral fortitude.
He expressed gratitude for past achievements and called for continued public support: “The Nigerian Army belongs to all Nigerians… we expect them to give us their maximum support so we can do our jobs better” .
The day’s proceedings also included a sermon by Lt.-Col. Martins Amuluche, Acting Director of Chaplain Services (Protestant), who stressed loyalty to God and the Army. He urged prioritization of soldiers’ welfare as a key component in transforming the military into a more effective, values-driven force.
