The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has added controversial musician Speed Darlington to its watchlist over allegations of promoting human trafficking. This development follows a viral video where the singer allegedly discussed bringing women into Nigeria for exploitative purposes.
According to NAPTIP, the agency is treating the matter seriously and has begun an investigation to determine the credibility of the claims made in the video. The agency also hinted at the possibility of placing a ₦50 million bounty on Speed Darlington if he fails to honour an invitation for questioning.
NAPTIP stated that its mission to combat human trafficking and related crimes is being threatened by the increasing use of social media to normalize illegal activities. The agency warned that entertainers and influencers found encouraging or participating in trafficking schemes would face the full weight of the law.
The singer is yet to respond officially to the allegations.
