The Federal Government has processed over 14,000 pending electronic visa applications as part of its intensified efforts to sanitize the country’s visa system and curb illegal residency. This was revealed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who said the move is in line with the government’s renewed crackdown on foreigners who overstay their visas.
Speaking during the launch of the ‘Digital Nigeria’ initiative at the NIS headquarters in Abuja, the minister stressed that technology would play a key role in monitoring and regulating visa compliance. He emphasized that those who exceed their permitted stay in the country will be dealt with decisively, as overstaying undermines national security and economic integrity.
The minister also noted that Nigeria’s visa reforms are part of a broader strategy to encourage tourism, attract investors, and foster international partnerships. He assured the public that the government is committed to building a robust, tech-driven immigration system that prioritizes both national security and global competitiveness.
