In a dramatic power play on July 2, 2025, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, along with senior PDP figures such as ex‑Senate President David Mark, Uche Secondus, and Aminu Tambuwal, are set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the nucleus of a new national coalition aimed at the 2027 general elections.
The move was formalized following a high‑level meeting of the “Concerned PDP Elders” held at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, where disillusioned leaders concluded that the PDP had become “a shadow of its old self” and incapable of mounting a genuine challenge under its current leadership.
According to insiders, attempts to launch a fresh platform—tentatively dubbed the All Democratic Alliance—were halted by registration obstacles, including the emergence of another party with a similar name. Likewise, efforts to pursue the Social Democratic Party (SDP) failed after alleged infiltration by hostile elements.
The coalition—now rallying under the ADC banner—intends to formally unveil its agenda and leadership today. David Mark will serve as interim chairman with Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary, while coalition members, including governors, senators, and former ministers, pledge to prioritize national unity, democratic reform, security, economic revival, and anti‑corruption efforts.
In the communique, attendees lamented that since the PDP’s loss in 2023 and subsequent internal crises, the party has descended into misrule and constitutional breaches—rendering it ineffective as a viable opposition force.
