Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike dismissed recent defectors to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), branding them as “expired politicians” who refuse to recognize the current government. He delivered this scathing rebuke at the inauguration of a Tinubu administration project in Abuja.
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo (SAN), in comments posted on X, downplayed the coalition’s significance, asserting that the ADC’s new members—mostly former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwarts turned dissidents—pose no real threat to the ruling APC. He claimed the coalition is nothing more than a desperate bid for the 2027 presidential ticket, led by Atiku’s faction, and argued that the APC stands to benefit by shedding its internal critics rather than being weakened by them. Keyamo added that the party is now stronger following its recent defections and urged the government to remain focused on governance.
Meanwhile, Presidential Special Adviser on Policy Communication Daniel Bwala dismissed the fledgling coalition as “a dead-on-arrival party” and labeled its membership “an association of wild goose chasers,” quoting Peter Obi’s earlier characterization of the group as a “structure of criminality.”
In a related development, Abia State Governor Alex Otti clarified that he remains with the Labour Party and has no plans to join the ADC or any anti-Tinubu coalition, emphasizing his focus on delivering for his people. Osun PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi also confirmed that Governor Ademola Adeleke will remain in the PDP, rejecting insinuations that the party is weakened despite Atiku’s claims.
Together, the leadership’s statements paint the ADC coalition as a fragmented and ineffective alliance unlikely to challenge the dominant APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
