Amid the escalating tension over the Kano Emirate throne, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has broken his silence, defending the actions of his supporters during the recent palace standoff. Bayero stated that his loyalists acted purely in self-defence, dismissing allegations that they instigated violence or breached public peace.
He emphasized that contrary to reports of aggression, his followers merely responded to threats posed against them. The comment comes as the power struggle between Bayero and reinstated Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II continues to deepen, with both sides maintaining a physical presence at different royal palaces in Kano.
The tussle has raised concerns over potential breakdown of law and order, prompting security agencies to step up their presence in the state. Emir Bayero’s latest remarks are seen as an effort to clear the air and rally support amid the ongoing royal dispute.
