The Ondo State Police Command has firmly denied reports suggesting that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) were compelled to pay ₦39,000 each to support their deployment to Lagos for the upcoming local government elections. In an official statement, the command described the allegation as completely false and misleading, aimed at misinforming the public and discrediting the police force.
Police spokesperson, DSP Olufunmilayo Ayanlade, clarified that the deployment of officers to Lagos was conducted in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, following standard procedures used in inter-state collaborations for elections. She emphasized that no financial contribution was demanded from any officer, as logistics and other necessary arrangements were adequately handled by the police authorities.
The command urged members of the public to disregard the rumour and remain confident in the professionalism and transparency of the police. It also cautioned individuals and media outlets against spreading unverified information that could damage the reputation of the security agency.
