A major political realignment has hit Benue State as more than 10,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), and other parties defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The mass defection took place in Agatu Local Government Area during a grand unveiling ceremony that drew a massive crowd of supporters.
The event, led by the ADC State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Terngu Tsegba, was described as one of the largest political gatherings in Benue’s history. Tsegba assured the new members that the ADC stands for inclusiveness and internal democracy, stressing that the party will provide a fair platform for all.
The defection was largely driven by the influence of Sir John Ngbede, a respected political figure in Agatu, who also donated a brand-new secretariat to the ADC. Addressing the crowd, Ngbede declared that PDP and APC had lost their grip on the area, saying the people were ready for a fresh political direction.
The massive turnout and high-profile defections are seen as a political earthquake that could reshape the balance of power in Benue ahead of future elections. Observers believe ADC’s growing grassroots acceptance signals the party’s emergence as a formidable force in the state.
