Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, has accused a cover-up of the death of a young Nigerian woman, saying the incident took place at Minister of Works Dave Umahi’s home under suspicious circumstances.Sowore criticized the Federal Government’s handling of the situation in a post on his verified social media site, claiming that there had been no accountability for the occurrence.Additionally, he charged that rather than calling for a comprehensive probe, President Bola Tinubu was promoting silence.
“Imagine the kind of people leading Nigeria. A young Nigerian woman dies under deeply troubling circumstances in Dave Umahi’s home and instead of accountability, the response from President Bola Tinubu… is, ‘Don’t worry about it’,” Sowore wrote.
The activist further claimed that the alleged response reflected “the kind of code of silence associated with organised crime,” adding that efforts appeared to be focused on burying the truth rather than ensuring justice.
“It is as if the message is: go bury the truth, cover it up, and move on,” he stated.
Sowore demanded that the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death be thoroughly probed and asked for accountability and transparency.Neither the Presidency nor Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works, has publicly addressed Sowore’s accusations at the time this story was filed.
