In Akure, Ondo State, the Vice Principal of Complete Child Development College, Mr. Rotifa, was assaulted and left unconscious after confiscating a student’s mobile phone during the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The student had attempted to use the phone to cheat, violating examination rules. Following the incident, the student’s mother confronted the school, demanding the phone’s return and threatening violence if her child was not allowed to cheat in future exams. Subsequently, the student’s brother and hired thugs attacked Mr. Rotifa, even intercepting a police van transporting him. Mr. Rotifa was hospitalized and has since been discharged but remains in hiding due to safety concerns. The Ondo State Ministry of Education is investigating the matter and implementing measures to ensure the safety of staff and students during the ongoing examinations.
