According to his eldest son, Emmanuel Ejeagha, the burial took place within 24 hours to honor his father’s express wish: no embalming, and interment promptly after death .
A family meeting, including state officials and local kindred members, unanimously approved this decision. They also confirmed that a formal funeral ceremony will occur at a later date .
Ejeagha was celebrated as one of the pioneers of highlife music in Nigeria, especially noted for his contributions to the Igbo musical tradition. His 2024 resurgence, prompted by the viral “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo” dance, helped rekindle interest in his work. Enugu Governor Peter Mbah also honored him by renaming Obinagu Road in Abakpa Nike after him .
