The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the immediate renovation of the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja. The directive was issued during an unscheduled visit to the club, where he expressed dismay over the poor state of the facility despite its prestige and history.
Wike emphasized that the golf course, named after former military President Ibrahim Babangida, should reflect global standards. He criticized the current level of maintenance and called for a complete overhaul, especially of the greens, access roads, and infrastructure within the premises.
Highlighting the club’s significance as a major social and sporting destination in the capital, the Minister said his administration is committed to restoring the IBB Golf Club to a standard befitting the status of Abuja as Nigeria’s capital. He assured members and management of the club that necessary support would be provided to fast-track the rehabilitation process.
