The All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in the South-South region have thrown their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, endorsing him as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. This decision was made during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, where the party also affirmed support for four APC governors from the region as unopposed gubernatorial candidates in the next election cycle.
The endorsed governors include Bassey Otu of Cross River State, Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, and others whose leadership, according to the party, has brought notable progress and stability to their respective states. A communique issued at the end of the meeting and read by the APC National Vice Chairman (South-South), Victor Giadom, emphasized that the zone stands fully united behind Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who was also endorsed by the group, praised President Tinubu’s efforts in infrastructure and development, citing projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the planned South-South Development Commission as significant achievements.
The meeting further called on the remaining two non-APC governors in the region—Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State and Douye Diri of Bayelsa State—to join the APC in order to build a stronger political front ahead of 2027. The South-South APC declared its readiness to mobilize full support for the president and consolidate its hold on the region in the upcoming elections.
