The Nigerian Senate has made it clear that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan will not be recalled to plenary until she complies with a court directive mandating her to offer a formal apology. Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, stated this during a media briefing, emphasizing that the upper legislative chamber is simply adhering to the legal judgment and not acting out of personal interest.
According to Adaramodu, the Senate is guided by the rule of law and must ensure court orders are respected, especially when they pertain to the conduct of its members. He clarified that Senator Natasha’s suspension is not indefinite, but her return is contingent upon fulfilling the conditions set by the Federal High Court, which include a written and verbal apology for her earlier actions deemed inappropriate.
