At the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH) in Wudil, Kano State, the Federal Fire Service (FFS) effectively stopped a fire breakout, saving an estimated ₦680 million in property.The incident happened on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the university’s architecture department, where documents and other artifacts were purportedly stored.At around 11:38 a.m., firemen received a distress call from the university’s security staff, and they promptly dispatched a reaction team from the Federal Secretariat station, according to Sadiq Usman-Mahmud, the FFS Kano State Controller.
Two medium water jets were utilized by the FFS and the Kano State Fire Service to put out the fire and stop it from spreading to other areas of the building and surrounding properties.According to the service, the event involved property valued at about ₦700 million. Of that sum, approximately ₦680 million worth of property was salvaged, whilst an estimated ₦20 million worth of property was lost.Electrical wiring damage was identified as the cause of the incident. Firefighters checked the impacted area to make sure there was no more danger, but no casualties were reported.To stop similar tragedies, the FFS advised organizations and the general public to routinely assess electrical infrastructure and replace any damaged or defective wire.
