In his condolences, President Bola Tinubu praised renowned Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs for his decades of devotion to Nigeria’s entertainment sector and his role in promoting Nigerian culture internationally.One of Nigeria’s most well-known performers and movie executives, Jacobs passed away on Wednesday at the age of 84.Tinubu characterized Jacobs as a significant figure whose work in theater, television, and film made a lasting effect on Nigeria’s creative industry in a condolence statement sent by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The President claimed that Jacobs’ expertise and commitment inspired generations of performers and filmmakers, and that his work helped shape Nigeria’s cultural identity and international image.Tinubu said that Jacobs began his career in British television and worldwide film projects after receiving training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.Later, he went back to Nigeria, where he rose to prominence in the nation’s nascent film industry and used his leadership and acting skills to help it flourish.According to Tinubu, Jacobs gained recognition in Nigeria and abroad for his performances that gave his parts depth, dignity, and authenticity.
The President declared, “His departure is a profound loss to Nigeria, the African film industry, and the global community of performing arts aficionados.”Future generations will continue to be inspired by Jacobs’ outstanding body of work, Tinubu continued.Additionally, the President acknowledged the wider contribution of Nigerian creative professionals to the nation’s cultural identity, international reputation, and economic growth, pointing out that Jacobs was a key player in this process.Jacobs was bestowed with the national honor of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) and other industry honors during his career.
In addition to his coworkers and members of Nigeria’s creative community, Tinubu sent his sympathies to Jacobs’ family, including his wife, veteran actress Chief Joke Silva, their children, and other family members.He offered prayers for the deceased actor’s soul to rest.
