Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has assured that the state of emergency imposed in Rivers State will end on September 18. He noted that the move will pave the way for the restoration of democratic governance and the full resumption of legislative activities in the state.
Wike, who spoke after casting his vote in the local government elections, described the polls as peaceful and orderly. He stressed that the expiration of the emergency rule will enable the Rivers State House of Assembly to return to its constitutional role while allowing elected representatives to function effectively.
The emergency rule, declared by President Bola Tinubu, had earlier suspended the governor, deputy governor, and state lawmakers to quell political unrest. According to Wike, the situation has now stabilized, making it possible for governance at both state and local levels to resume without hindrance.
