Wike Withdraws from PDP Accords, Vows to Pursue Justice Amid Internal Party Turmoil
Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has announced his withdrawal from all prior agreements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing deep-seated mistrust and repeated breaches of commitment by senior party members. He attributes the party’s ongoing crisis to these issues, which have persisted since the 2023 general elections.
Wike highlighted that despite multiple reconciliation efforts involving key figures like Governors Seyi Makinde, Umaru Fintiri, Bala Mohammed, and former Senate President Bukola Saraki, agreements were consistently violated. He specifically accused Governors Makinde and Peter Mbah of manipulating party processes, including attempts to install Ude Okoye as National Secretary against prior resolutions.
Additional grievances include the unauthorized appointment of the Deputy National Secretary as acting National Secretary, conflicting communications regarding the PDP’s governorship candidate in Anambra State, and the disruption of a PDP zonal elective congress in Jos on May 24, where INEC refused to participate due to improper documentation.
Expressing disappointment over these developments, Wike emphasized his long-standing loyalty to the PDP since 1998 and his support for various governors’ election campaigns without personal gain. He declared his commitment to continue fighting until justice prevails within the party.
This development marks a significant escalation in the PDP’s internal conflicts as the party prepares for upcoming electoral challenges.
