The family of Elisha Wisdom, a WAEC candidate at the Complete Child Development Centre in Akure, has filed a defamation lawsuit against the school, its Vice Principal, and a media platform. This comes after claims surfaced online accusing Wisdom of exam malpractice and suggesting his family hired thugs to assault a school official—allegations his parents say are entirely false.
Wisdom’s father, Mr. Elisha Collins Imokhuede, wrote a formal petition to the Inspector General of Police on May 30, 2025, detailing how the situation began with the confiscation of a mobile phone—belonging to Wisdom’s mother—brought to school without her knowledge. The family only discovered the issue after searching for the missing phone at home.
The school principal refused to return the phone until after exams, even denying a request to release the SIM card essential for the mother’s business. Despite tensions, Imokhuede insists no violence occurred—only verbal exchanges—and supported the school’s disciplinary actions.
Trouble escalated when the Vice Principal, upset by perceived disrespect from Wisdom’s older brother, allegedly involved the police in a home visit. Unable to locate the brother, they instead apprehended Wisdom’s 13-year-old cousin, causing a public uproar. In the aftermath, a social media post falsely accused the family of orchestrating an attack and threatening staff.
Calling the claims “baseless and outrageous,” Imokhuede emphasized the family’s integrity, noting that four of his children attend or have attended the school without prior incident. He decried the school’s failure to communicate formally and condemned what he called a “Gestapo-style” attempt to handle a minor issue through force and defamation.
The family’s lawyers have filed a lawsuit seeking retractions and public apologies from all parties involved. They also raised concerns about the conduct of the officers involved, claiming a pattern of abuse within the local police station.
Mr. Imokhuede, a block maker with a degree in Political Science, vowed to pursue justice regardless of the cost, insisting on protecting his child’s rights and the family’s reputation.
