Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has confirmed that the revamped Abuja International Conference Centre (ICC) will begin hosting events shortly after its official inauguration on June 10, 2025 .
The minister, during his inspection tour of the upgraded ICC and key roads—including the Outer Southern Expressway to Wassa and the Gishiri road—revealed that the venue, shuttered since April 2024 for major refurbishment, has been fully re‑equipped and restored .
Wike emphasized a new maintenance strategy: Julius Berger, the same firm responsible for the renovation, will continue to service and maintain the Centre under a fresh contract. This move is aimed at addressing the persistent issue of poor facility upkeep, which he described as a “significant challenge” in Nigeria .
He reassured the public that the modern technology installed at the Centre is user‑friendly for local staff and that only users of the facility will incur maintenance charges—removing political interference from its operations .
Highlighting the role of strong leadership, Wike noted that clear communication and accountability ensured progress despite bureaucratic bottlenecks. He added that underperforming officials faced prompt consequences, reinforcing a results-driven approach .
The ICC’s reopening is part of a broader 17-day milestone inauguration series across Abuja, led by Wike’s administration .
