President Bola Tinubu is set to embark on a significant overseas trip, touching down in Saint Lucia from June 28 to July 4. The high-profile journey combines diplomatic duties with personal leisure, marking a unique blend of statecraft and relaxation.
Two key days—June 30 and July 1—are earmarked for official engagements, including meetings with Saint Lucia’s leadership. In particular, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre will host Tinubu during these sessions, which aim to fortify ties between Nigeria and the Caribbean region.
Prime Minister Pierre emphasized the historical and cultural connections between Nigeria and the Eastern Caribbean: “As descendants of a shared heritage… these long-standing cultural and historical connections compel us to continue nurturing and expanding our partnerships”.
In addition to bilateral meetings, Tinubu’s official agenda will include a summit with leaders from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). Discussions will focus on cooperation in economic development, education, infrastructure, and diplomatic exchange—an effort to enhance regional collaboration.
The rest of the visit—outside of the official engagements—will be devoted to private leisure, offering the president a chance to unwind on the picturesque Caribbean island.
