In a powerful denial issued on June 19, 2025, the families and lawyer representing six young men detained in Kubwa emphatically rejected recent allegations accusing the Nigeria Police Force of extorting ₦700,000 from them .
Barrister Babs Iwalokun, alongside the parents of Emmanuel David, Yunusa Habeeb, Moses Okwe, Abdulazeez Abduhamid, Kure Mustapha, and Dalandi Inuwa Mustapha, branded the report as “false, misleading, and completely untrue.” They stated no police officer ever demanded or received money on behalf of their loved ones. The families also distanced themselves from the story’s publication, calling it “defamatory and damaging to the image of the Nigeria Police Force” .
Highlighting their trust in the legal process, the statement praised the professionalism displayed by the arresting officers. The parents stressed their full confidence in due process being followed and urged Nigerians to ignore what they termed a “misleading narrative designed to incite public sentiment” .
The six young men were apprehended on June 4, 2025, while returning from a birthday celebration. Although initial reports raised concerns about arbitrary arrests and restricted legal representation, the families affirmed that proper legal procedures are currently underway .
