The Lagos State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Olorundare Jimoh, has dramatically improved its crime response time, guaranteeing arrival at incident scenes in under five minutes once a distress call is received. This impressive achievement, highlighted on Sunrise Daily, follows a concerted effort to cut down the average response window from 10 to just 5 minutes.
Jimoh underlined that this swift reaction capability not only tackles crimes effectively but also sends a strong message to would-be offenders: commit a crime, and you’ll be quickly caught. This has helped ensure that violent crimes are largely prevented and tackled decisively when they do occur.
Addressing nationwide policing debates, Jimoh ruled out the creation of state police units, asserting instead that better financing for the national force is the most effective solution. He emphasized that Nigeria’s federal policing model parallels successful systems globally.
Looking ahead to the July 12 local polls, the commissioner assured the public that security measures would be applied discreetly and responsibly. He confirmed that while the police are ready to enforce movement restrictions if needed, such actions would be “moderate,” ensuring that daily life in Lagos remains largely unaffected.
