The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), under former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, has formally objected to the reinstatement of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary. The BoT criticized Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum for canceling the 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting originally scheduled for June 30, 2025, and demanded adherence to the party’s constitution and NEC directives .
Despite Anyanwu’s recent reinstatement following negotiations with INEC, dissent ran deep within the PDP. Eleven National Working Committee (NWC) members warned against contravening NEC’s decision, which assigned Setonji Koshoedo as Acting Secretary . Disunity among governors surfaced as Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde questioned Anyanwu’s return, in contrast to Bauchi’s Bala Mohammed, who supported it .
Wabara described Damagum’s move as a “null and void” action that severed the party’s internal processes, affirming that NEC’s resolution—even the rescheduled date—cannot be unilaterally overturned .
In solidarity with BoT’s rebuke, National Vice Chairman (North West) Senator Bello Gwarzo and National Treasurer Ahmed Yayari defended Anyanwu’s return, citing recent meetings with INEC and party leadership between June 25–27 as grounds for his reinstatement . However, rumors suggest that tensions remain high within the PDP, setting the stage for a tense NEC showdown—come late June.
This internal conflict underscores a wider clash over authority: whether NEC’s decisions or the BoT’s counsel should govern. With both power blocs pulling in opposite directions, the PDP braces for a high-stakes NEC meeting—where the very fabric of its constitutionality and unity may be tested.
