Peter Obi Applauds Ganduje’s Resignation, Calls on Other Ailing Politicians to Exit for Better Governance

Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential flagbearer, has voiced strong support for Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s recent resignation as the National Chairman of the APC. Obi praised the move as both fitting and timely, emphasizing that it provides a model for other political figures grappling with health issues.

Ganduje, who formerly governed Kano State, stepped down on Friday citing health concerns. Obi remarked that if a leader lacks the necessary vigor and alertness to fulfill their roles, stepping aside—as Ganduje did—is not only wise, but essential.

Obi further urged any leader facing similar health struggles to consider resigning in order to safeguard efficient governance. He pointed out that the physical and mental capacity of leaders is crucial for addressing Nigeria’s deepening challenges.

He also expressed concern about the prevalence of medical tourism and prolonged health-related absences among top officials, warning that these disrupt national progress. Obi concluded his statement by wishing Ganduje tranquility and fulfilment in his retirement.
