The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed concern over the recent tightening of visa policies by both the United States and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which many believe could strain diplomatic relations. In response, the Nigerian government is pushing back diplomatically, emphasizing its commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of Nigerian citizens abroad.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria is in active discussions with the US and UAE authorities to seek clarifications and reverse what it described as discriminatory visa measures. Officials noted that the restrictions not only inconvenience genuine travelers but also pose obstacles to trade, tourism, and diplomatic cooperation.
The US recently reduced the visa validity period for some Nigerian applicants to just three months, a decision that has sparked backlash and calls for reassessment. Simultaneously, reports of stricter screening and frequent visa denials by UAE authorities have fueled public frustration.
The Federal Government urged Nigerians to remain calm as it intensifies diplomatic engagements to address the issues. It also reiterated its commitment to ensuring that its citizens are treated fairly and with respect in all countries.
