Ahead of the upcoming local government elections in Lagos State scheduled for Saturday, July 13, 2025, the Lagos State Police Command has announced a statewide restriction of movement. This restriction will be enforced from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on election day, affecting all road and waterway transportation across the state.
The decision was made following a strategic meeting by the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), which aims to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the electoral process. According to the police, only individuals and vehicles on essential duty, such as emergency services, accredited election observers, and media personnel with valid identification from LASIEC, will be exempted from the restriction.
Security has also been intensified, with patrol teams, tactical squads, and surveillance units fully deployed across all local government areas to deter any threats or disturbances. The police have warned that no security escorts or private guards will be allowed to accompany political figures or candidates to polling units or collation centers.
Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order, cautioning against any form of electoral violence, intimidation, or the use of thugs to disrupt the process. He urged political stakeholders, community leaders, and parents to discourage their supporters and wards from engaging in any unlawful activities during the elections.
The public has also been encouraged to report any suspicious movements or incidents to security agencies using dedicated emergency lines. The police reassured residents of their commitment to safeguarding lives and property while enabling citizens to exercise their voting rights without fear.
