Meanwhile, damaged communities in Ondo State, affected by recent downpours over a weekend, are appealing to both state and federal governments for urgent relief after their homes and local infrastructure were devastated in places like Owo, Ilaje, and Ese‑Odo LGAs .
Reports from analysts highlight that, since July 2024, floods have struck 31 of Nigeria’s 36 states—impacting over 1.2 million people, flooding more than 180,000 hectares of farmland, and triggering displacement and food insecurity across multiple regions . The worsening pattern underscores the need for transparent governance of ecological funds and stronger institutional capacity at state and local levels to mitigate recurring disaster risks.
