Terror on the Farmlands: Bandits Kill 9, Abduct Many in Fresh Sokoto Attack

A deadly bandit raid has left the community of Giyawa village in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State in deep mourning, as nine farmers were gruesomely murdered and several others kidnapped. The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, leaving widespread fear and sorrow in its wake.

Eyewitnesses say the assailants, heavily armed and numbering in dozens, stormed the farmlands while the victims were working. Without warning, the attackers opened fire, killing nine on the spot and abducting others, including women and children. Survivors fled into nearby bushes to escape the onslaught.

Local sources revealed that the bandits operated freely for hours without immediate response from security personnel, allowing them to carry out the attack and retreat with their captives unchallenged. The brazen nature of the attack has further heightened concerns over the deteriorating security situation in rural Sokoto and other parts of Nigeria’s northwest.

Residents are now living in fear, with many farmers abandoning their lands due to the growing threat posed by armed gangs. Community leaders have called on federal and state governments to intervene urgently, strengthen security presence in remote areas, and bring the perpetrators to justice before more lives are lost.
