The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has suffered another setback as Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, has formally resigned his membership from the party. This move follows a wave of internal crises that have continued to trouble the PDP at the national level.Senator Fadahunsi tendered his resignation in a letter dated July 12, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 9 Chairman in Obokun Local Government Area.
In the letter, he pointed to irreconcilable differences, internal wrangling, and unending legal disputes within the party as the major reasons for his decision. He noted that after consulting widely with his supporters, political associates, and family members, he decided it was best to exit the PDP.His resignation comes just weeks after Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi-Ajagunla, who represents Osun Central Senatorial District, also left the party over similar concerns.
Fadeyi-Ajagunla, in his own resignation letter dated June 12, 2025, described the national crisis within the PDP as distracting and unproductive, making it difficult for him to continue as a member.The exit of two serving senators within a short period has heightened speculations about the weakening structure of the PDP in Osun State. The party is currently grappling with growing internal divisions, and rumours are swirling about a possible defection of Governor Ademola Adeleke to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The developments suggest a deepening crack in the PDP’s foundation, which could significantly impact its political influence in the state.
