The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued a strong warning to Nigerians planning to travel to the US solely to give birth. According to the embassy, visa applications from individuals with the primary intention of delivering babies in the US will be denied outright.
The announcement reaffirms the US government’s policy to clamp down on what is often referred to as “birth tourism,” where foreigners travel to the United States to secure citizenship for their children through birthright. The embassy emphasized that this motive does not meet the criteria for a valid visa and applicants found to have such intentions will be refused entry.
Officials reiterated that visas are granted based on strict compliance with immigration laws, and applicants must be truthful about the purpose of their visit. The embassy urged Nigerians to avoid misrepresenting their intentions during visa applications, warning that dishonesty could lead to long-term visa bans or other legal consequences.
