President Bola Tinubu has approved a major subsidy on kidney dialysis treatment in public hospitals, reducing the cost of each session from ₦50,000 to just ₦12,000. The decision, announced by presidential spokesperson Daniel Bwala, is aimed at making the life-saving procedure more accessible to Nigerians struggling with kidney-related ailments.
The initiative will initially cover ten federal hospitals across the six geopolitical zones, providing significant relief to patients who often find the treatment unaffordable. The government also plans to extend the programme to more hospitals before the end of the year, ensuring wider coverage and access.
This move follows earlier healthcare interventions introduced by the Tinubu administration, including the provision of free caesarean sections in federal facilities. Together, these measures are part of the government’s broader strategy to reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses and expand affordable healthcare services for citizens.
