Nigeria has been thrown into shock following the sudden death of Dr. Femi Rotifa, a resident doctor at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Port Harcourt. The young doctor, popularly known as Dr. Femoski, reportedly collapsed after enduring an exhausting 72-hour shift caused by acute staff shortages.
According to reports, Dr. Rotifa had repeatedly complained of feeling unwell and pleaded for rest, but his request was dismissed. He was later discovered unconscious in the hospital’s call room and rushed to the Intensive Care Unit, where efforts to resuscitate him sadly failed.
His tragic death has sparked outrage across Nigeria, with medical practitioners and citizens condemning the harsh working conditions faced by young doctors in the country. Social media has been flooded with tributes and angry reactions, with many demanding urgent reforms in the health sector to prevent further loss of lives under such inhumane circumstances.
