The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced a five-day nationwide warning strike to press home its demands over poor welfare and working conditions. The industrial action is scheduled to begin on Friday, September 12, 2025, and will run until Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
The decision was reached after an emergency meeting of the association’s National Executive Council, which deliberated on the unresolved issues affecting its members. According to NARD, all residency centres have been directed to inform their respective hospital managements about the action.
The doctors are protesting against low remuneration, certificate downgrading, poor staffing levels, lack of medical equipment, and worsening workplace conditions in hospitals across the country. The association stressed that the strike is a warning to the government to urgently address the long-standing problems in the health sector.
Earlier in the week, the Federal Capital Territory chapter of the resident doctors had embarked on a separate seven-day warning strike over similar grievances, highlighting the depth of discontent among medical professionals.
The five-day nationwide strike is expected to cause serious disruptions in public hospitals if the government fails to meet the doctors’ demands within the stipulated period.
