Former Oyo State Governor, Rashidi Ladoja, has been officially crowned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland in a traditional ceremony that drew dignitaries and well-wishers. The coronation took place at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East, where the respected statesman completed the age-long rites that mark the ascension to the revered throne.
Earlier, Ladoja had visited the Labosinde Compound in Oja’ba, where he received the Akoko leaf, a symbolic step in the process of becoming Olubadan. The rituals culminated in his recognition as the new custodian of Ibadan’s cultural heritage and traditions.
The final presentation of the staff and instruments of office is scheduled to be performed by Governor Seyi Makinde at the historic Mapo Hall, cementing Ladoja’s authority as the paramount ruler of Ibadanland. Governor Makinde, who had been on leave, returned ahead of schedule to personally oversee the momentous occasion.
In a letter to the State House of Assembly, the Governor explained that his early resumption on September 26, 2025, was necessary due to the significance of the coronation. He commended his deputy, Barr. Bayo Lawal, for holding the fort during his absence, while reiterating his commitment to continue steering the affairs of Oyo State.
