The Nigerian Army has deployed a full brigade along with heavy equipment to the southern parts of Kwara State, with troops already streaming through communities in Ifelodun, particularly around Oke Ode and Babanla. The operation is also being expanded into the Edu and Patigi local government areas, targeting dense forest zones used by kidnappers for launching attacks and abducting residents for ransom.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who discussed the security challenges in a weekend meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Jos, praised the federal government and military high command for intervening decisively. In a statement on Wednesday, he pledged full support for the Armed Forces, the DSS, the police, and other agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
He expressed optimism that the operation—part of Operation Fasan Yanma—will eliminate threats in both Kwara South and Kwara North. He also commended the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Army Staff, and key military units for their cooperation. His statement emphasized confidence that the brigade under Brigadier General A. A. Babatunde will successfully clear the troubled zones.
