Human rights advocate and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has initiated a nationwide mobilization aimed at organizing a peaceful march to the Aso Rock presidential villa to demand the release of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu. He shared the move on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, tagging the campaign #FreeNnamdiKanuNow and #MNK20, describing it as the start of coordinated action to secure Kanu’s freedom.
In his announcement, Sowore urged political figures from the Southeast—naming Governor Charles Soludo, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Governor Alex Otti, as well as Peter Obi—to go beyond rhetoric and join in a “peaceful, legal, and visible” march toward the Presidential Villa. He reiterated that the protest will remain lawful and peaceful, calling on Nigerians of conscience to participate.
A former presidential candidate himself, Sowore underscored that civic engagement and non-violent resistance are vital tools in holding governments to account within democratic frameworks.
