The late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, has been posthumously honoured by the United States Army War College (USAWC) with an induction into its prestigious International Hall of Fame. The recognition was announced during the opening session of the Association of the United States Army Annual Convention held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Centre in Washington, D.C.
According to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the ceremony took place on October 13, 2025. The honour was bestowed in recognition of Lagbaja’s outstanding leadership, dedication to military professionalism, and contributions to peace and global security.
During the event, the Commandant of the US Army War College, Major General Trevor J. Bredenkamp, officially presented the award. Representing Nigeria at the ceremony were the late general’s wife, Mrs. Maria Abiodun Lagbaja, and Major General Adeleke Ayannuga, who received the honour on behalf of the current Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.
Lieutenant General Oluyede described the recognition as a reflection of Lagbaja’s enduring impact on the Nigerian Army and his exemplary service to the nation. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to upholding the values of professionalism, discipline, and global cooperation that Lagbaja passionately embodied during his lifetime.
