Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has announced the safe release of 38 worshippers who were abducted during a violent attack on the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke-Isegun, in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area.
The governor credits President Bola Tinubu’s “hands-on” intervention as critical to the success of the operation, noting that the president delayed his trip to the G20 summit to tackle the security breach. AbdulRazaq also expressed deep appreciation to a range of security agencies — including the Office of the National Security Adviser, the DSS, the Nigerian Army, the Intelligence Agency, and the Police — all of which were mobilized under the president’s directive.
In a related development, church members in Eruku held a special service on Sunday at the very hall where the attack occurred. Despite visible blood stains on the floor, the congregation came together to pray for those still missing and to mourn the lives lost. During the service, church leaders reaffirmed that 38 people were kidnapped — dispelling rumors that the number was higher.
The church secretary, Michael Agbabiaka, revealed chilling details: the kidnappers initially demanded ₦100 million per person, but this was later negotiated down to ₦20 million each before communication abruptly halted.
Governor AbdulRazaq, while relieved, warned that the fight against insecurity is far from over. He urged continued vigilance and pledged to maintain pressure on hostile elements threatening communities in Kwara.
