The Nigeria Police Force has ordered all its Mobile Police officers assigned to protect 20 high-profile individuals — including Atiku Abubakar, Nyesom Wike, Aisha Buhari, and former Vice President Namadi Sambo — to immediately return to their base.
A memo from the Force’s 50-Squadron in Kubwa, Abuja, signed by CSP Suleiman Abdullahi, gave a firm deadline of 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 27, 2025 for the withdrawal.
The recall follows a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu issued during a high-level security meeting in Abuja, mandating that police personnel previously deployed to VIP protection be redeployed to frontline policing functions nationwide.
Under the new arrangement, VIPs who still require armed protection must obtain it from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), freeing up police manpower for general security duties — especially in underserved or rural areas.
Officials say the shift aims to enhance community safety amid rising crimes by reallocating resources from VIP security to public protection, marking a major restructuring of how security resources are distributed nationwide.
