Fresh tension is brewing in Rivers State House of Assembly after lawmakers publicly questioned Siminalayi Fubara’s prolonged failure to submit a list of commissioner-nominees for screening. According to the Assembly, this delay persists even after the emergency rule was lifted in September 2025 — a move that should have paved the way for the reconstitution of a fully functional cabinet.
Several ministries, including Education and Communication, currently lack substantive commissioners; instead, permanent secretaries are managing key departments. The Assembly warned that the continued absence of a complete cabinet undermines proper governance and may jeopardize upcoming state business, including the 2026 budget presentation.
According to legislators, Fubara has not offered any public explanation for the delay. As frustration grows, some Assembly members argue that the governor is flouting constitutional requirements and undermining government functionality — a path that could deepen political instability in the state.
